Business Momentum- How to start 2020 on the right foot.
Today is November 1, 2019, this means there are only 61 days left in 2019! When you hear that, you probably have one of two reactions, either “thank goodness, this year kicked my butt and I’m ready to start fresh,” or “oh no, I haven’t hit all my 2019 goals yet!”
New Years Day means fresh beginnings and new adventures, but the preparations you make today through November and December will make the difference in how you start 2020. You can’t wake up 1/1/20 and expect everything to suddenly be different. Success is not about luck. It is about strategic planning. Let’s talk about three steps you need to complete to get on track for 2020! #momentum
- Review– Check your 2019 company goals, did you hit your sales goals last year? Did your company grow? Did you reach new people and hear their stories while telling your own? Where did you spend your ad dollars? Did you review the monthly analytics of your website, social media and all digital content? Did you post on social media as much as you should? Did you create engaging and helpful content for potential customers to see you as a leader in your industry? Did you attend those events and build new relationships in the way you should? What stood in your way of you completing your goals? Was it time, energy, knowledge?
- Set Goals– Now that you’ve evaluated your 2019 goals, it’s time to look to the future and your 2020 goals. There are many different formats for goal setting but my favorite way to do this is to create a web, just like those pre-outlines we used to create in school. I write my name in the center of a piece of paper with a circle around it and draw lines to other circles that say personal, family, business and faith. The reason I do this as a web is so I can easily draw a line to things that go to both. For example, an actual goal of mine in 2020 is to continue learning more about psychology. That fits under a personal goal as well as a business goal, so a line goes to both of those.I leave enough room in each circle to write specifically how I plan on reaching each goal I’ve set. For example, one of my goals is to grow my business by 50% in 2020. Notice I didn’t just write “grow my business.” It is vitally important to set concrete goals; I cannot stress this enough. I have the exact steps I will take to reach that 50% mark written down on my web. This is my way of holding myself accountable for what I want to achieve. The only way I will not reach my goal is if I ignore the plan I have set for myself and my team. Every step is a single piece of a larger plan, without these steps I have no plan and my goals become nothing more than words on a sheet of paper.
- Prepare– Now is the time to act. Halloween is over which means the holiday season is in full swing. 2020 is only a couple of months away and that means November 1st through November 20th is really the best time to prepare for the new year.
